The private life of the Deol family

The public's familiarity mostly begins and ends with faces such as Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Sunny and Bobby Deol, and Esha Deol. The rest of the Deol family generally stays private. Pooja Deol is known as Sunny Deol’s wife, and Dharmendra’s daughter-in-law, but she especially likes to keep out of the public eye, despite being married into a well-known Bollywood family.

2/5

A royal connection and a London beginning

Pooja Deol (born Lynda Deol), was born in London on September 21, 1957. According to DNA, she has a cool mix of cultures in her background. Her dad, Krishan Dev Mahal, was Indian but lived in the UK, and her mom, June Sarah Mahal, is British and even has some royal blood. She grew up in London, far away from the Bollywood scene, but life had other plans for her, she ended up marrying into one of Indian cinema's most well-known families.

3/5

A secret wedding with Sunny Deol

In 1983, Sunny Deol appeared in the blockbuster ‘Betaab’, and married Pooja one year later in 1984. They had a private, intimate wedding in London. Their wedding was private because Sunny was just starting his career in film, and producers worried that if the public found out he was married, it would hinder his growing appeal as a romantic lead. The wedding remained private until the wedding photographs later appeared in a London magazine, and fans began to notice.

4/5

Her subtle Bollywood presence

Pooja Deol didn't chase fame, but she's always been part of Bollywood behind the scenes. She was in Sunny’s movie ‘Himmat’ back in 1996, though you wouldn't know it. Later on, she wrote the story for ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana 2’ (2013), that funny movie with Sunny, Bobby, and Dharmendra. She's been a quiet supporter of her family's movie history, even if she stays out of the spotlight.

5/5

A life away from gossip

Pooja and Sunny Deol have two sons, Karan and Rajveer Deol. Both of them became actors like their dad. Karan started in ‘Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas’ (2019), and Rajveer starred in ‘Dono’ (2023). The movies didn't do great, but the Deol family’s still making movies. Even though there were rumors about Sunny and his co-stars Amrita Singh and Dimple Kapadia, he and Pooja have stayed together; they're a strong couple in a crazy industry.
