Mukesh Rishi says doing 'Gunda' was a 'misstep'; recalls how he was told about 'Bulla’s fame' by Saif Ali Khan

Veteran star Mukesh Rishi is considered one of Bollywood's accomplished actors and has delivered numerous outstanding performances throughout his career. Nevertheless, he is often primarily associated with Kanti Shah's 'Gunda, a movie celebrated for its 'so bad it's good' charm.

In a recent interaction with Lehren Retro, the actor expressed remorse for his involvement in the film. He disclosed that Saif Ali Khan had introduced him to the movie, and Bulla's newfound internet fame became a topic of discussion.

The actor admitted that he gained unexpected popularity on the internet due to its cringeworthy dialogues and scenes. But the actor feels that accepting the role was a misstep. The actor added that he was the new villain in town and was doing good films at that time.

Several years down the line, the film sparked numerous memes and online discussions due to its content. Mukesh revealed that he was introduced to it by Saif Ali Khan. While recalling his trip to Hyderabad for their respective projects, Saif asked him if he knew that one of his films was garnering a lot of attention on the internet.

Mukesh mentioned how Saif went on to explain how the younger generation had enthusiastically embraced Bulla, propelling Gunda to become one of the most-watched films. The actor also revealed that later on, he started receiving calls, even from individuals abroad, inquiring about the movie and the character. Whenever he attended events, people began requesting me to recite lines from Bulla's dialogues. The actor expressed his wonder and said that he never imagined it to be a topic of discussion 20-30 years later.
