Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic movie posters get a studio Ghibli twist

Ghibli-style images are all the rage, blending the dreamy, whimsical aesthetic of Studio Ghibli with beloved stories from around the world. Bollywood fans have taken this trend to heart, reimagining Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic movie posters in stunning animated designs that feel straight out of a magical Ghibli film. Here are some of the iconic Ghibli-style images created by SRK’s fan pages.

2/7

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

The Ghibli-style poster of ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ) is a visual treat, capturing the vibrant romance of Raj and Simran against a serene countryside backdrop. The original poster showed Shah Rukh Khan as Raj, carrying Kajol’s Simran in his arms with a playful charm. The reimagined version softens the scene with pastel tones and lush greenery, evoking the dreamy landscapes Ghibli is known for.

DDLJ, directed by Aditya Chopra, is the ultimate love story of two young hearts who meet on a European trip but must fight family traditions to be together. The film’s iconic train scene and evergreen songs like “Tujhe Dekha To” have made it a timeless classic.

3/7

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…

The Ghibli-inspired poster for ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…’ (K3G) transforms the Raichand family into an elegant animated portrait. The original poster featured the star-studded cast—Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor—posing in traditional attire. The reimagined artwork adds a warm glow and intricate detailing to their outfits, giving it a regal yet whimsical vibe. K3G, directed by Karan Johar, is all about family ties, love, and reconciliation.

4/7

Om Shanti Om

The reimagined poster of ‘Om Shanti Om’ bursts with colour and energy, much like the film itself. The original poster had Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone dressed in retro outfits, striking a dramatic dance pose under glittering lights. The Ghibli-style version retains this glamour but softens the lines with an animated charm that feels straight out of a musical fairy tale. Directed by Farah Khan, ‘Om Shanti Om’ is a reincarnation drama where Shah Rukh plays Om Prakash Makhija, a struggling actor from the 1970s who is reborn as superstar Om Kapoor (OK).

5/7

Swades

The Ghibli-style poster for ‘Swades’ beautifully captures the simplicity and emotional depth of this critically acclaimed film. The original image shows Shah Rukh Khan as Mohan Bhargava sitting among villagers on a boat—a poignant moment that reflects his journey back to his roots. The animated version adds soft colours and delicate strokes to highlight the serenity of rural India. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, ‘Swades’ tells the story of Mohan, an Indian scientist working at NASA who returns home to reconnect with his heritage. As he helps electrify a remote village and bonds with its people, Mohan undergoes profound personal growth. This heartfelt tale of self-discovery resonates deeply with audiences—and so does its stunning reimagined poster.

6/7

Pathaan

In its animated form, ‘Pathaan’ transforms into an exhilarating visual spectacle reminiscent of Ghibli’s dynamic storytelling style. The original poster showed Shah Rukh Khan as Pathaan in his rugged avatar alongside Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in action-packed poses. The Ghibli version adds dramatic skies and fluid motion to create an artwork that feels alive with energy. ‘Pathaan,’ directed by Siddharth Anand, is an edge-of-your-seat action thriller where Shah Rukh plays an exiled RAW agent teaming up with ISI operative Rubina (Deepika) to stop Jim (John Abraham) from unleashing global chaos. Packed with high-octane sequences this film became a massive hit.

7/7

Kal Ho Naa Ho

The Ghibli-inspired poster for ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ radiates warmth while capturing the bittersweet essence of this romantic drama. The original poster featured Shah Rukh Khan standing between Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan against New York City’s skyline—a snapshot of love and friendship. The reimagined version softens the scene with pastel hues and delicate detailing that evoke nostalgia. Directed by Nikhil Advani and written by Karan Johar, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ follows Aman Mathur (Shah Rukh), who hides his terminal illness while helping Naina (Preity) find love with her best friend Rohit (Saif). With its heartwarming moments this film remains unforgettable.
