Throwback: When Preity Zinta cleared the fact that her name was not 'Pritam Singh', it was Bobby Deol who coined it
Preity Zinta, known for her roles in Bollywood movies like Soldier and Dil Se turns a year older today. Earlier, the actress had clarified a long-standing misconception about her name. Many believed that she changed her name from 'Pritam Singh' to 'Preity Zinta,' but Preity revealed that it was actually a playful nickname given to her by her co-star and friend Bobby Deol during the filming of Soldier in 1998.
In a video earlier shared on social media, Preity addressed the confusion surrounding her name. She explained that Bobby Deol jokingly called her 'Pritam Singh' on the sets of Soldier, and the name stuck with her ever since. Despite her attempts to correct the misconception multiple times, the nickname persisted in media articles and discussions.
She said, “Over the years I have consistently read in various media articles that I have changed my name from Pritam Singh Zinta to Preity Zinta. I have tried to set the record straight so many times by telling everyone that, on the sets of “Soldier” @iambobbydeol called me Pritam Singh as a Joke ( pls ask him why he chose that name when u meet him ).”
Bobby Deol also responded to Preity's post, expressing his surprise at the confusion caused by the nickname. He affectionately acknowledged giving her the name and expressed his love for his "Pritam Singh."
Soldier, which marked Preity Zinta's acting debut, was a significant success at the box office. Despite being her second film released after Dil Se, Soldier catapulted Preity to fame and established her as a prominent actress in Bollywood. The movie's popularity, coupled with the enduring friendship between Preity and Bobby Deol, has kept the playful nickname alive in the minds of fans and the media.
