Singer Kavita Krishnamurthy says "Hawa Hawai" from 'Mr India' is an example of Javed Akhtar’s intellectual creativity: 'My mother felt that I have gone mad'
The iconic track “Hawa Hawai” from ‘Mr India’ is unforgettable for all movie lovers. It explored a new style and version of actress Sridevi, and the funny elements were gratifying for music listeners. The jumpy effects and modulation in the song have been attributed to the playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy. In a recent interview, the singer has opened up about the giggles and laughter in this song and the lyrics of ‘Hawa Hawa’ written by Javed Akhtar.
Speaking to Lallantop, Kavita said that the gibberish lines in the first part of the song made her mother feel like she had gone ‘mad’. Kavita recollected the day before recording the song. It was the first naughty song and an item song that she has given voice to. The singer admits that later she has become an expert with mischievous songs, including ‘Tu cheez badi hai mast’ and ‘Mera piya ghar aaya’.
She remembers rehearsing the song and reading the lyrics ‘Pak chiki, laki chiki, chiki laki choom’. She was continuously saying, ‘rapchiki laki chiki laki chiki.’ This incident made her mother believe that she has gone mad. Kavita calls it Javed Akhtar’s intellectual mamla.
Kavita said that Javed used to say, "No one would write such deep words like ping pong, King Kong!". The music composer told Laxmikant that if there is lassi-pissi in the song, it is fine to make it assi-tussi!. But finally, Javed decided to end the song with the word ‘Mombasa’, which he got from his dream.
Kavita added that Laxmikant-Pyarelal's song was done by 100 musicians and 40 chorus singers. Pyarelal groomed them well, and others practiced the gibberish lyrics in the music room. She called it absolutely crazy, explaining that the opening part of the song with a louder pitch used to make the musicians laugh, and Kavita also would giggle.
She then revealed that the rehearsal was stopped more than twice due to the funny lyrics. Pyare then scolded everyone for joking around and be serious saying that they are wasting the producer's money. Kavita got scared, and she sang it like a serious song even during rehearsals. She mentioned the lyrics as extraordinary for all these reasons.
