Subhash Ghai revels AR Rahman's 'Jai Ho' was initially done for Salman Khan starrer 'Yuvvraaj': 'I gave it to Danny Boyle for 'Slumdog Millionaire'
The Oscar-winning song 'Jai Ho' marked a significant milestone in the legendary musician A.R. Rahman's career. The song impeccably complemented Danny Boyle's film 'Slumdog Millionaire,'. In a recent interview director Subhash Ghai had an interesting revelation about the song.
Ghai shared that the song was initially composed for his 2008 movie 'Yuvvraaj,' featuring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Zayed Khan, and Katrina Kaif.
During the ANI interview, Subhash Ghai disclosed that A.R. Rahman served as the music director for 'Yuvvraaj,' and 'Jai Ho' was originally recorded for this film. However, Ghai felt that the song didn't align with the emotions portrayed in 'Yuvvraaj' and decided to replace it. The song was intended for Zayed Khan's character. He believed that the composition was too soft and subtle for the aggressive nature of the role.
In a previous statement to the Times of India, Ghai mentioned that he happily handed over the song to Danny Boyle, who, in turn, utilized it perfectly in 'Slumdog Millionaire,'. Ghai Felt grateful for that decision . Subsequently, A.R. Rahman confirmed this decision in an interview with Hindustan Times.
The collaboration between Subhash Ghai and A.R. Rahman began with the film 'Taal.' However, Rahman's prior commitment to the musical 'Bombay Dreams' prevented him from working on Ghai's project 'Yaadein.' Despite their association, Rahman had limited time to compose for Ghai's film 'Kisna,' and the album was co-composed by Ismail Darbar. Additionally, Rahman mentioned in a Rediff interview that he composed music for two other Ghai films, 'Shikast' and 'Motherland,' but both projects were eventually shelved.
