Vinay Pathak starrer 'Bhagwan Bharose' becomes the first Indian Film to make it to Snowdance Independent Film Festival

Director Shiladitya Bora's debut film, ‘Bhagwan Bharose' has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Indian film ever selected for the prestigious Snowdance Independent Film Festival in Essen, Germany. The cast includes Vinay Pathak, Satendra Soni, Sparsh Suman, Manu Rishi Chadha, Masumeh Makhija, and Shrikant Verma, among others.

Snowdance primarily showcases films created with minimal or no state funding, and it particularly favors productions not heavily influenced by TV stations or major studios. Considered the primary German festival for independent and free-thinking filmmakers, Snowdance has gained a reputation for featuring authentic independent cinema.

Director Shiladitya Bora expressed his admiration for Snowdance, describing it as a beacon for authentic independent cinema. He emphasized the festival's commitment to selecting true-blue quality independent films, distinguishing them from studio-funded productions posing as independent. Over the last decade, Snowdance has evolved into one of Europe's premier indie festivals.

According to Bora, ‘Bhagwan Bharose’ receiving recognition at Snowdance is not merely an accolade but a testament to its quality and compelling narrative. The film's selection was made by a distinguished jury, including Torben Schiller, Sales Director at Universal Pictures International Germany GmbH, acclaimed actor Nina Proll, political scientist and journalist Wolfram Winter, and actress Valerie Niehaus, supported by key figures in the German film scene.

The film has garnered additional recognition, serving as the closing feature at the 9th Jaffna International Cinema Festival in Sri Lanka. Soon, it is slated to be screened at the Doris Duke Theatre, the largest independent arthouse theater in Hawai'i, located at the Honolulu Museum of Art (HoMA).


‘Bhagwan Bharose’ revolves around Satendra Soni and Sparsh Suman, two young individuals whose perspectives on faith undergo constant scrutiny and transformation as their world expands. The narrative unfolds against the backdrop of their country's rapidly changing socio-political landscape. The film features original music by the Indian Ocean, pioneers of the fusion rock genre in India, known for their work in ‘Peepli Live’ and ‘Masaan.’
