Hawaizaada: Why is Ayushmann Khurrana’s film special?

The big career flight: It was very fortunate of multi-talented Ayushmann Khurrana to have started off his career with a film like Vicky Donor. For his excellent performance in the film, Ayushmann got all the love from the audience and critics. The kind of fame he enjoyed is evident from the fact that his fans started calling him ‘Vicky Donor.’ But little did the Chandigarh lad know that his journey in films post Vicky Donor was not going to be easy. Despite him being a talented actor, Ayushmann’s next two releases-Nautanki Saala and Bewakoofiyaan failed miserably at the box-office. His forthcoming film Hawaizaada, based on the life of Shivkar Talpade, who is said to have invented the first flying machine even before Wright Brothers, looks really promising if the theatrical trailer is kept in consideration. Carrying a lot of potential to bring the audience to cinema halls, Hawaizaada could prove to be the big career flight for Ayushmann.

Singer Ayushmann: Shoojit Sircar’s Vicky Donor is one of the best things that would have ever happened to Ayushmann Khurrana. Vicky Arora from the film was a character you cannot resist falling in love with. But for Ayushmann, the icing on the cake was getting a chance to sing in his very first film. The Punjabi romantic number Paani Da Rang got immensely popular among the youth and went on to earn singer Ayushmann a separate fan following. As expected, Ayushmann got to lend his ear-pleasing voice for each one of his films. In Hawaaizaada, Ayushmann will be seen singing a song based on Ghalib’s popular verse ‘Dil-E-Nadan tujhe hua kya hai’. Quite a thing to watch out for!

Marathi Ayushmann: If reports are to be believed, Ayushmann Khurrana will be seen spouting first-rate Marathi in Hawaizaada. The actor had to work really hard to learn the language. To completely fit into his character, he even instructed his staff in Mumbai to speak with him in Marathi. If you look at his film career, Ayushmann’s first role was of a Punjabi. Punjabi songs have dominated his singing career. So, we have had enough of Punjabi Ayushmann now, the Marathi Ayushmann from Hawaizaada is what we are looking forward to.

Extensive research: The world does not know much about Shivkar Talpade, the scientist whose role Ayushmann will be seen playing in the film. There is not enough proof that he was the first man to have constructed and flown an unmanned aircraft in the 19th century. However, Hawaizaada’s trailer, with all confidence, claims that it was not the Wright Brothers but an Indian who first made an aircraft fly. To make his film look as real as possible, Hawaizaada director Vibhu Puri met some of the family members of Talpade. He also met a few scientists in a research institute in Pune where there is a proof that the scientist did succeed in his efforts to create a flying machine. The extensive research gone into the making of this film is another reason that makes it a tempting affair.

Art-direction: Art-direction plays a key role when it comes to recreating the past for a film. Especially in films like these which are inspired by real events, the art directors take a lot of pain to make the movie look as real as possible. While we are yet to see how Subrata Chakraborthy and Amit Ray have designed the sets for Hawaizaada, a closer look at the trailer suggests that the film is terrific in terms of art-direction. If that turns out to be true, Hawaizaada could be a pleasant visit to the glorious past.
