Manoj Kumar reveals different aspects about Nanda's personality

Veteran actor Manoj Kumar is shocked by the demise of yesteryear actress Nanda and while expressing his grief to TOI, the actor shared his experience with the actress. While remembering Nanda, Manoj Kumar said, "When I first worked with her, she was an established star and I was a struggler. I had apprehensions about it and thought she might have starry tantrums. The very first day I saw her, she was sympathetic and that gave me the faith that everybody in the industry is good. She made my struggle easy in Bollywood."

While talking about her simplicity, Manoj Kumar shared an experience with us. "I remember I had one story and had approached Sharmila Tagore for it. However, she couldn't do it. Later, I was thinking what should I do and my wife suggested me to approach Nanda. My wife was good friends with Nanda. One day we met her at her place, but I was so embarrassed to ask her for the role. But, my wife asked her about it and even without reading the script she said yes for it. I was so touched by her gesture. She put up a condition and said that I will work in the movie, but without taking remuneration," shared Manoj Kumar.

Manoj Kumar, who shared screen space with her claims that Nanda was a very simple person. "She was very humble. She never ordered food from different restaurants and used to sit with the cast and crew to have food. Though she was a very senior artist she was very obedient and co-operative. With me she was also extra nice because I had started my career with her," said Manoj Kumar.

Manoj Kumar reveals that though Nanda was known to be a reserved personality, she was adventurous by nature. "She was a nice human being. She was known as a reserved person, but had a good sense of humour and was adventurous at heart. She never had two or three hair dressers or make-up men surrounding her on the sets," emphasized Manoj Kumar.

Manoj Kumar stresses that to describe Nanda's personality is difficult, but yet to sum up she could be a perfect Kalidas' woman from his poetry. "On the whole she was a typical Indian woman from Kalidas' poetry. You had a sister, mother and a friend in her. Apart from a great performer in movies, she was a person with high qualities. She was homely," said Manoj Kumar with a sigh.
