Shaan breaks silence on social media trolling: 'Samjhane se behtar khud samajh jao'
Singer Shaan, known for poplar hits like ‘Tanha Dil’, ‘Chand Sifarish’, and ‘Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh’, recently spoke about facing social media trolling in the digital age. Having ruled an era before Instagram and live sessions, he now actively engages with fans online. While he enjoys the direct connection, one unpleasant episode during COVID period, a live session made headlines.
He points out that negativity is unavoidable online. “You’ll always get that one odd person who’s going to send some negative comment,” he says. Earlier, such remarks would upset him, but not anymore. He explains, “I would like to clarify because sometimes they hold the wrong end of something and say something, but then later, with time, I realised there’s no point even doing that.”
Choosing calm over confrontation, Shaan adds, “Samjhane se behtar hai khud samajh jao.” Today, he focuses only on encouragement. As he puts it, “I appreciate all the good comments and ignore the bad.”
He also reveals that launching his own label gave him independence. “So I just wanted to stay busy, stay in my music and not keep worrying about when that phone will ring and some composer will call me to sing for them.” Shaan believes authenticity attracts listeners. “There are listeners for all kinds of music,” he adds.
He further reminded viewers of his legacy. “Please ask your teachers and parents about my identity. Haven’t I voiced enough popular songs to be known by you all?”
Reading more insults in disbelief, he reacted sharply, “I don’t want to be popular among these people.” The clip spread rapidly online and became one of his most talked-about digital moments.

What he said about social media trolling
Shaan admitted that online platforms can be both rewarding and harsh. He values the instant feedback and fan interaction but refuses to let negativity affect his peace. He says, “I enjoy this whole new medium and I feel it’s a great way to directly connect with the your audience. Returning as a composer after seven years
Recently, Shaan composed Ankhiyaan, marking singer Babul Supriyo’s return to Hindi music after more than seven years. He explains, “The composing part was not to prove anything, but it’s just that we all have phases in our career and at the end of the day, you want to sing.” Staying active mattered more than outcomes. “For any singer, the best thing is to be busy behind a mic,” he says.He also reveals that launching his own label gave him independence. “So I just wanted to stay busy, stay in my music and not keep worrying about when that phone will ring and some composer will call me to sing for them.” Shaan believes authenticity attracts listeners. “There are listeners for all kinds of music,” he adds.
About Shaan’s controversy
During the COVID period, an Instagram Live session turned tense when abusive comments flooded his chat. Visibly upset, Shaan addressed the trolls directly. He said, “Stop saying $#@$%. What is all this? Who are these people? Can you please be respectful? It shows your upbringing.”He further reminded viewers of his legacy. “Please ask your teachers and parents about my identity. Haven’t I voiced enough popular songs to be known by you all?”
