'Seeing my mother dive was a dream come true,' says Sangeetha Sringeri
For Kannada actor Sangeetha Sringeri, scuba diving is more than just an adventure sport — it’s an experience that can shift one’s perspective on life. Recently, during a film shoot in Mangaluru, the actor shared that transformative moment with her mother, Bhavani Shiva Kumar, who went on her first-ever scuba dive in Murudeshwar.
Sangeetha says her mother has always had a zest for life and a desire to try new things. “She is very lively and wants to experience a lot in life. Coming from a small town like Sringeri, she didn’t have the chance to explore much while growing up. She got married early, and although being married to a military person gave her opportunities to travel, experiences like scuba diving are something even our generation hasn’t fully explored.”
‘This dive with mom has become a lifetime memory’
What seemed like an exciting plan also brought anxiety. “She is 51, and I was nervous about it. Friends my age have panicked and backed out before, so I kept wondering — will she be able to breathe calmly, understand the process, and handle the pressure? I prayed that everything would go smoothly.” The outcome, she says was unforgettable. “Mom was so happy when she came out, kept talking about how beautiful it was — the joy on her face is priceless. It became a lifetime memory,” says Sangeetha.
‘Scuba diving is a game changer’
Having discovered scuba diving six years ago, Sangeetha describes it as a deeply transformative experience. “When I tried it for the first time, I felt it was a game changer. The way you look at life changes completely. No matter how much I explain it, words fall short — it’s intense and profound,” she says, adding, “Your eyes and mind absorbs the life around you.”
