After playing the villain in Nivin Pauly's thriller 'Prathichaya', Sharafudheen is all set to impress family audiences with 'Madhuvidhu', directed by Vishnu Aravind.Unfortunately, as Hashir and team's 'Vaazha 2' and even the Hollywood film 'Michael' dominate the screens in Kerala, 'Madhuvidhu' seems to be witnessing a modest run at the box office. The romantic comedy stars Sharafudheen and Kalyani Panicker in the lead. Jagadish and Azees Nedumangad appear in key supporting roles.

'Madhuvidhu' faces strong competition

The film’s run has been impacted by the strong performance of Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Bros. The blockbuster continues to dominate screens across Kerala. Apart from 'Vaazha 2', the Saiju Kurup starrer 'Mohiniyattam' is also a strong competitor for the Sharafudheen starrer.According to Sacnilk, 'Madhuvidhu' has shown a gradual rise in daily collections. However, the numbers remain low. It opened with Rs 22 lakhs on day 1.The collection increased slightly to Rs 27 lakhs on day 2. On day 3, the film earned Rs 43 lakhs and it then saw a small jump to Rs 61 lakhs on day 4.

Overall collections remain modest for the Sharafudheen starrer

The Malayalam version has contributed Rs 1.53 crore in net collections so far. The film’s India gross stands at Rs 1.71 crore. The India net remains Rs 1.53 crore, accounting for 100% of the revenue share.
'Madhuvidhu' follows the story of Amrit Raj who belongs to a family with three unmarried older men. After several unsuccessful attempts at finding a bride, he finally falls in love. His family is excited to welcome a woman into their home. The narrative then explores whether Amrit will succeed in bringing his love home.

ETimes verdict

The film has received mixed reviews from critics. ETimes noted that the film attempts to deliver a simple romantic story with meaningful themes. Our exclusive review reads, "While the main story is a predictable romance, there are some important messages, about the older generation needing to take a step back and allowing the youth to make the decisions on their own lives. Director Vishnu Aravind manages the screenplay by Bibin Mohan and Jai Vishnu well. But in the second half, the film descends into a typical drama, with avoidable developments - a pregnancy (that seems biologically tricky!) and a slap, among other things - that work against the story. In fact, with the way the love stories are developed, the film feels like an anti-romance, with a bunch of men and women, who have a happy routine in their lives, finding themselves emotionally unsettled when they partner up."Meanwhile, Sharafudheen's previous hit film was 'Padakkalam'.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and the data in this article are compiled from public and industry sources.
