10 years of Engaeyum Eppothum: Four interesting facts about the film

It’s been a decade since the road drama directed by M Saravanan, Engaeyum Eppothum, hit screens. The film had Jai, Anjali, Sharwanand and Ananya in the lead. The film focuses on two love stories- one set in Chennai and the other in Trichy that converge in the climax.

The film marks the debut of M Saravanan

The film marked the directorial debut of M Saravanan in Tamil. He had earlier directed the Telugu film Ganesh Just Ganesh, which had Ram and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead. Saravanan was honoured with an award by the Human Rights Organisation for the socially relevant message in the film. He then went on to direct films like Ivan Veramathiri, Valiyavan, Chakravyuha and Raangi.

Remakes in Kannada and Bengali

Engeyum Eppothum was remade in Kannada as Endendu Ninagagi and was directed by Mahesh Rao. The Kannada version featured Vivek Narasimhan, Deepa Sannidhi, Anish Tejeshwar and Sindhu Lokanath. On the other hand, the Bengali remake titled Bojhena Shey Bojhena starred Soham Chakraborthy, Mimi Chakraborty, Payel Sarkar and Abir Chatterjee, and was directed by Raj Chakraborty.

Music composer C Sathya made his debut with the film

The film also marked the debut of music composer C Sathya, who replaced Thaman. The album comprises five songs, which had lyrics by Na Muthukumar and M Saravanan. The music was released by Suriya, Vivekh and music director Harris Jayaraj. The film was produced by AR Murugadoss in association with Fox Star Studios, thus, marking the studio's entry into Tamil cinema.

Jai donated blood in real for a scene

Jai put up an impressive performance as Kathiresan, a metal shop worker, a shy and soft-spoken guy. In a scene where he has to donate blood, the actor is said to have donated in real. The chemistry between Jai and Anjali was a huge hit. While Vimal and Amala Paul were considered as the other lead pair, they were eventually replaced by Sharvanand and Ananya, who were quite impressive, too.
