Arjun Sarja’s latest release 'Blast' has started its theatrical journey on a decent note. The action family entertainer, which features Preity Mukhundhan and Abhirami in key roles, managed to attract audiences on its opening day with steady footfalls in Tamil Nadu and selected centres.
According to Sacnilk estimates, the film collected Rs 1 crore net in India on Day 1. The movie was screened across 1,022 shows on its opening Thursday and recorded an overall occupancy of 26 percent. The India gross collection for the first day stands at Rs 1.15 crore.
Tamil Nadu emerges as the strongest market for 'Blast'
Tamil Nadu contributed the majority of the film’s earnings on Day 1. The state added Rs 95 lakhs to the overall gross collection.
Karnataka followed with Rs 10 lakhs while Kerala contributed Rs 7 lakhs. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana added Rs 1 lakh and the rest of India collectively brought in R₹ 2 lakhs.
Occupancy improves during evening and night shows
The Tamil version recorded an overall occupancy of 28.01 percent on Day 1. Morning shows opened at 15.46 percent occupancy. The numbers increased during the afternoon with 25.69 percent. Evening shows further improved to 26.92 percent, while night shows registered the highest turnout at 40.31 percent.
ETimes, in its review, praised the detailing in the screenplay and the emotional depth given to the characters.
“Much of Blast’s charm lies in its frames, dialogues, and character arcs. When Nila takes up karate classes, she is gifted a teddy bear. While you see her go and hug the bear, the film immediately cuts to her using it like a punching dummy for karate practice.”
“Although she fights and lands repeatedly in trouble, we see Nila hesitate to hit someone every once in a while. But Arjun almost always pushes her to do the right thing, and sometimes, these happen just in action, with no words communicating the support.”
The review further stated, “In Blast, there are several intro sequences, an action block every five minutes, three main villains, and a family of karate fighters– yet every scene is stitched together with such detailing, resulting in a blast of a theatrical experience.”
