'Chandramukhi' to 'Pa Paandi': Five super hit Tamil films that were released during the occasion of Tamil New Year

Every Friday is a festival for cinema lovers since many movies release on a weekend. And if there is a festival that falls on a weekend, then fans of top actors are on top of the world if there star’s movie is releasing. However, this Tamil New Year will be different as fans will have to stay at home. No films will release and there will be no public celebrations. Fans had been expecting two big releases with Vijay's 'Master' and Suriya's 'Soorarai Pottru' in Tamil, but the films got postponed due to the Coronavirus lockdown. Here is a small recap for fans by taking a look at the five super hit Tamil films from 'Chandramukhi' to 'Pa Paandi' that were released on the occasion of Tamil New Year.

‘Chandramukhi’ which was directed by P Vasu released in 2015, and it featured Rajinikanth, Prabhu, Jyothika, Nayantara and Vadivelu in main roles. The film had completed a theatrical run of 1000 days, and it was one of the most memorable hits in Tamil. The plot of 'Chandramukhi' revolves around a woman who suffers from a mental disorder affecting a family and a psychiatrist who risks his life to save hers.

'Santosh Subramaniam' was remade from the Telugu film 'Bommarillu', and the film directed by Mohan Raja was critically praised. The film featured Ravi, Genelia and Prakash Raj in lead roles, and the music of the film was scored by Devi Sri Prasad. Subramaniam is a wealthy businessman who manages his own construction company. He lives with his wife Shanti and sons Sanjay and Santosh. Subramaniam takes great care of his family and focuses more on his children.

'Naan Sigappu Manithan' was an action thriller and it featured Vishal and Lakshmi Menon in the lead roles. The film which was directed by Thiru dealt with narcolepsy, and it was declared as a commercial hit. Indhiran, a narcoleptic, falls in love with Meera, the daughter of a businessman. One day, when Meera goes into a coma after being attacked, an angry Indhiran sets out for revenge. The film was dubbed in Hindi and Telugu, and it was also remade in Odia.

The cop drama 'Theri' featured Vijay in the lead role, and the film was released in 2016. The story of the film is about DCP Vijay Kumar who strives to raise his daughter in a safe environment. However, after his life is threatened by deadly thugs, he must confront his past to protect his daughter. Also, this film marks the first collaboration of the blockbuster combo Vijay and Atlee. The music of the film was scored by GV Prakash Kumar, and it had reportedly grossed more than Rs 100 crore at the box office.

'Pa Paandi' was a very special film for popular actor Dhanush since he marked his debut as a director with the film. The story of 'Pa Paandi' is about a retired stuntman who leaves his home after an argument with his son and finds his long-lost love. Then he meets his love and befriends her. Whether he reunites with his son and his family was the suspense in the film which featured Rajkiran and Revathi in main roles while Dhanush and Madonna Sebastian appeared in their younger versions.
