Happy Birthday, AR Rahman: FIVE soulful songs by the Music Maestro

World-famous composer AR Rahman is celebrating his 53rd birthday today. The ace musician has to his credit two Oscar Awards for 'Slumdog Millionaire' and is also a recipient of two Grammy awards, one Bafta, one Golden Globe and six National Awards. AR Rahman was honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan in 2010. On his special day, here’s taking a look at FIVE soulful compositions by the music maestro.

‘Inam Maaralam’ is a patriotic song from Mani Ratnam's 'Roja' and continues to rule hearts for decades.

'Kizhakku Cheemayile' portrayed the emotions of a brother and sister. The film was directed by Bharathi Raja and the song ‘Kizhakku Cheemayile’ was crooned by KS Chitra and Malaysia Vasudevan. The song can make anyone emotional.

‘Narumugaye’ was sung by Unnikrishnan and Bombay Jayashree. The romantic classical song belongs to superhit film 'Iruvar', which was directed by Mani Ratnam. The film featured Mohan Lal, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhoo in the lead roles.

‘Kadhalenum’ is a popular romantic song narrating a collection of emotions. The song was sung by SP Balasubramaniam and Swanalatha and remains to be one of the most played songs of AR Rahman. ‘Kadhalar Dhinam’ was directed by Kathir and it featured Kunal and Sonali Bendre in the lead roles.

'Sangamam' depicts the disputes between two dance forms. The climax song ‘Mazhai Thuli’ thrilled everyone with its amazing choreography and music.
