Samantha comes from a non-filmy background, and she didn't had many friends before entering into cinema. Cinematographer Ravi Varman notices the beautiful actress, and roped in her as a lead actress for his debut directorial 'Moscowin Kavery'. But the film got delayed, and Samantha made her on-screen debut with the romantic drama 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa'.

Samantha became popular by being part of promising films and transformed to do films both in Telugu and Tamil regularly. In 2012, Samantha bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in both Tamil and Telugu for the films 'Neethane En Ponvasantham' and 'Eega'. She was the second actress after Revathi to win Filmfare Award for Best Actress in both Tamil and Telugu in the same year.
