Happy Father's Day: From Rajinikanth in ‘Kabali’to Vikram in 'Deiva Thirumagal', five Kollywood biggies who nailed the role of a father

Actors always try to do varied roles in their films to impress the audience with their versatility. It’s not always a young role that is appreciated by fans but even strong elderly roles are much revered. Understanding this fact, ace actors of Kollywood have portrayed the role of a father, knowing that the character was a strong one and completely nailed their act. On the occasion of Father's Day, we take a look at five biggies of Tamil cinema including Rajinikanth in ‘Kabali’ and Vikram in ‘Deiva Thirumagal’ who won hearts with their roles as fathers in these films.

​Rajinikanth - 'Kabali'

Rajinikanth has done massy roles for a long time, and he opted to represent a powerful father in 'Kabali'. Even though he played as a leader of a gang in the action drama, his encouraging and motivational dialogues to his daughter Dhansika in the film were remembered by his fans. 'Kabali', which was directed by Pa Ranjith, featured Rajinikanth in the main role with Radhika Apte, Winston Chao, Sai Dhanshika, Kishore, Dinesh, Kalaiyarasan and John Vijay in supporting roles.

​Kamal Haasan - 'Papanasam'

Kamal Haasan was very much impressed by Mohan Lal's super hit Malayalam film 'Drishyam', and remade the film in Tamil. He played the role of a protective father in 'Papanasam', and it is one of the memorable roles of the star. Jeethu Joseph who directed the original version directed the remake as well, and it featured Kamal Haasan, Gautami, Niveda Thomas, and Esther Anil in the lead roles.

​Ajith - 'Yennai Arindhaal'

Thala Ajith's cop drama 'Yennai Arindhaal' marked the actor's first collaboration with Gautham Menon. Ajith played the role of a caring father and his journey with his daughter was loved by most. As a sincere police officer, Ajith fights hard against an organ-trafficking racket. Anushka Shetty and Trisha played the female leads while Arun Vijay played the main antagonist.

​Vijay - 'Theri'

Vijay played the role of a responsible dad in 'Theri', which was directed by Atlee. Vijay’s character explained the importance of bringing up a child and bravely faced struggles in life. The film which was released on the occasion of Tamil New Year became a blockbuster hit at the box office. Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson played key roles, and it had music scored by GV Prakash Kumar.

​Vikram - 'Deiva Thirumagal'

Vikram played the role of a man with an intellectual disability, who fights for the custody of his young daughter. The emotional drama, which was directed by AL Vijay featured Vikram, Baby Sara and Amala Paul in main roles, and the music of the film was composed by GV Prakash Kumar. 'Deiva Thirumagal' had its basic plot adapted from the 2001 American film 'I Am Sam'.
