In an press interaction on January 26, 2026, director
Lokesh Kanagaraj addressed two concerns. One was the polarizing opinions on his high-octane thrillers, while dropping a massive update regarding
Thalapathy Vijay’s swansong. Lokesh not only defended his cinematic style against claims of glorifying violence but also went on to confirm his presence in the highly anticipated Vijay starrer 'Jana Nayagan'.
Lokesh Kanagaraj responds to criticism on violence in his films
Addressing the long-standing accusations, Lokesh Kanagaraj firmly rejected the idea that films alone can be blamed for rising violence in society. “I can’t accept the argument that watching a film increases violence. Then why should anyone read books or grow up listening to stories?” he said. Emphasising shared responsibility, he added that upbringing, environment and social awareness all play a role.
When it comes to drugs, Lokesh Kanagaraj has been adamant that drugs are never promoted in his films. “I have been very vocal about drugs in my films. I use big heroes' popularity to get the message across, 'Say no to drugs,'" he said. He said that using his effort, he had conducted anti-drug campaigns, taken pledges from more than 15,000 students, and even hired assistant directors through short films made at colleges against drug abuse.
