‘Paal Abhishekam’ to slaughtering animals: When fans went to extreme ends for their admiration

Fans are the biggest strengths of movie stars. Their support plays a pivotal role in both earning stardom and box office numbers, however, there are also times when the admiration goes to extremities and end up in undesirable results. From fans anointing film posters and cut-outs with milk to going barbaric, case in point, the recent incident of slaughtering animals for the launch of ‘Annatthe’ first look, there were times when fans went frenzy. Let’s take a look at some of the extreme measures fans have adopted in the name of admiration.

Paal Abhishekam

The Paal Abhishekam (Anointing posters and cutouts with milk) is a very common way of celebrating the release of movies, or birthdays of celebrities. Several fans consider their stars as godlike and express admiration with Paal Abhishekam, however, the mode is nothing but wastage of food. Actors including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith, and Simbu have expressed disapproval for the same, but a few fans continue to pour in their admiration!

Poster celebrations

Poster celebration is popular amongst the Tamil audience. We can see wall posters during birthdays, anniversaries of movie stars, but sometimes, fans go a step ahead and design posters with sensitive dialogues which create quite some turbulence and controversies. Recently a poster featuring Vijay and Dhoni as CM and PM made rounds on social media and created some buzz.

Creating a buzz on social media with hashtags

Using hashtags on social media is helpful during various situations, but it is not free of cons. Case in point, #ValimaiUpdate. The makers of Ajith's 'Valimai' failed to share an update as promised and this resulted in fans going frenzy and tagging the cast and crew related to the film and asking for an update. Ajith was taken aback by his fans’ behaviour and condemned them for their action and assured them that the update will arrive at the right time.

Goat slaughtering by Rajini fans

Rajinikanth fans took extreme measures and went barbaric during the first look launch of the star’s upcoming film ‘Annaatthe’. A section of the star’s fans slaughtered a goat in front of Rajinikanth's banner and anointed the banner with the blood. A similar incident has happened in the past and it has resulted in public outcry. Animal welfare organizations have expressed strong dissent over the recent incident and it is stirring up debate on social media platforms.
