'Hotspot 2 Much,' which has just been released, has attracted public attention because it combines three different stories in one, and its reviews have been fairly positive. However, soon after, the movie became a subject of debate, first because of the content of the film, and then because of some comments addressed by
Vignesh Karthick to the viewers during the success meet. Whilst responding to the criticism over some scenes of the movie, he made a few controversial comments that have become popular and spread across many social media platforms.
Vignesh Karthick responds to viral scenes and online criticism
Speaking at the success meet, Vignesh Karthick addressed the portion featuring Thambi Ramaiah that went viral online. As per Filmibeat, he acknowledged that while some viewers appreciated the sequence, others, particularly a section of feminists, expressed strong objections. The director claimed that he respects all sorts of opinions but disagreed with “pseudo-feminist” attacks by those who allegedly only watched a two-minute excerpt of the movie rather than the movie itself. He asked people to watch the whole movie first and said that he would accept any negative critique of the actual movie itself, but not undeserved criticism over whether he had a right to express himself artistically.
Clothing, culture, and the scene that triggered debate
The controversy is mostly related to the second storyline of the movie, which addresses the conflict between a father and his daughter over the choice of clothes after the latter returned to India from some overseas event. It touches upon the issues of modern mentality, the contemporary state of social relations, and the matter of personal freedoms. In his defense, the director, Vignesh Karthick, said that he does not control the way his daughter chooses to dress but only recommends her to avoid certain clothing worn in a close circle. Still, his other words related to some girls being "stubborn," and the question of whether they would wear a bikini to the temple evoked outrage and thus intensified the backlash.
Vignesh Karthick calls for responsibility
In light of these comments, various social media users have criticized the directives for being brought on by ineptitude and carelessness. Audiences felt that a director can indeed tell a story; however, he must be more conscious and responsible when in public. Users further encouraged Vignesh Karthick to learn good communication before teaching someone a thing or two about communication. This may mean that, rather than the film's scope to entertain, the 'Hotspot 2 Much of the movie is buried in the controversy related to the video, causing most of the talk to center around other discussions like culture and representation, as well as the responsibilities involved.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
