Twenty years ago, the film made a staggering amount at the box office, making it one of the blockbuster hits of the year

Filmmaker Puri Jagannadh completes two decades in the Telugu film industry today on April 20. Puri has come a long way since his directorial debut Badri (2000), which also marked Amisha Patel and Renu Desai's debut in Tollywood. Twenty years ago, the film made a staggering amount at the box office, making it one of the blockbuster hits of the year. Nobody seemed to have ever seen anything like it. It received extravagant rave reviews unlike anything in immediate memory. Here're some of the facts about the movie that unbelievably interesting!

Puri Jagannadh's debut film

Badri was Puri Jagannadh's debut film, which was an apparent attempt. Towards the end, when the director has managed to fit in the pieces of the puzzle to deliver a reasonably gripping romantic drama, he proves that he is here to stay. In just a couple of years, Puri has managed to make a unique place for himself in the industry. Puri Jagannadh is the name that is taken in high regards by cinema lovers across the world. Thus, when people came to know that the talented director is making a movie in and on India with Indian artistes, expectations reached to another level.

Second time association between Pawan and Ramana Gogula

Right from the first scene of the film, the movie walks on a totally different path. Cinematographer Madhu Ambat gives some stunning visuals and breathes life into the beautiful vision of the director. The music of the movie was provided by music composer Ramana Gogula with whom the actor teamed up for the second time after Thammudu. Well, nobody can match up to his talent. There are some scenes that looked more beautiful because of his music and the background score falls short of being excellent.

Power star's powerful performance

In Badri, Power star Pawan Kalyan played an ad agency director whose girlfriend accuses of him for not loving her sincerely challenges him to make a woman for falling in love with him. However, their lives take a turn when that woman falls madly in love with him. The story may demand you suspend your disbelief, but Pawan Kalayn breathed life into the character with finesse and gravitas that would transform him into 'Power Star.' He's won our hearts with his comic timing and perfect mannerisms of a daring and dashing hero.

Badri was remade in Hindi as Shart: The Challenge

The Puri Jagannadh directorial was a big hit in the Telugu film industry. The romantic drama was later remade in Hindi as Shart: The Challenge with Tusshar Kapoor, Gracy Singh, Amrita Arora, Prakash Raj and Anupam Kher in the lead, and was equally successful in Bollywood too. The film's music, composed by Anu Malik, is still very popular. Hindi version was also helmed by Puri Jagan and produced by T Trivikrama Rao.

Puri's career was a mixed bag

While his first film was a blockbuster, his career has been a mixed bag with a few movies such as Bachi, Andhrawala, Golimaar, Nenu Naa Rakshasi, Devudu Chesina Manushulu, Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu, Jyothy Lakshmi, Ek Niranjan, Loafer, ISM, Rogue, Paisa Vasool, and Mehbooba didn't fly with audiences. In recent years, Puri Jagan reinvented himself with films such as Temper and iSmart Shankar.
