During the initial phase of her showbiz career, Nayanthara was rumoured to be dating Kollywood actor Silambarasan (Simbu) and though the affair lasted for a few months, it garnered huge attention among media circles. Thereafter, she was in a relationship with Prabhu Deva for close to four years and even considered marriage at one point. However, in 2012, Nayanthara confirmed that she had parted ways with the choreographer-turned-director.

During an interview in early 2020, Nayanthara opened up about her past relationships and revealed why she parted ways with men she was once romantically involved with. The ‘Mookuthi Amman’ actress said “Love doesn’t exist where there is no trust. I ended my past relationships when I realised that it was better to live alone than with someone who she could not be trusted.” Admitting that it wasn’t easy to cope up with a breakup, she mentioned that her professional life and fans helped her big-time to surpass the hard period.

The popular actress of South cinema first met Vignesh Shivan on the sets of the 2015 Tamil film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.’ It was the latter’s second directorial after ‘Podaa Podi’ and what began as a director-heroine association between the duo gradually turned into a thick friendship. Within no time, cupid’s arrow struck and made them inseparable.

Since the release of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’, grapevine suggested that Nayan and Vignesh are head over heels in love for each other. However, it was officially confirmed in 2016 at an awards ceremony in Singapore. Both the celebs took the stage and indirectly announced their love towards each other. Vignesh, who went up to collect the Best Director's Award called Nayan the 'best human being' he's ever met and thanked her for 'coming to the script reading and falling in love with the script, or the man who read it out.’
