Actor and producer Ghattamaneni Ramesh Babu, the elder brother of Mahesh Babu was one of the most talented actors and took Tollywood by storm at a young age itself. Ramesh Babu tragically died at the age of 56 on Saturday in Hyderabad. He was suffering from liver-related ailments for years. To play last respect to him, here are some facts that most people don’t know about the actor:

Ghattamaneni Ramesh Babu was born on October 13, 1965, in Chennai the present-day capital of Tamil Nadu. The Telugu film industry was shifted in the early 1990s, and the Ghattamaneni family moved to Hyderabad thereafter. Ramesh Babu was the elder son of superstar Krishna Ghattamaneni and the elder brother of Tollywood star Mahesh Babu. The Sarkaru Vaari Paata star was once said he was taken care of by his brother Ramesh during his childhood days, and he was everything for him.

​Acting debut

Ramesh Babu first appeared onscreen at the age of 8 in the 1974 film Alluri Seetaramaraju, starring his star father Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala. He played young Alluri Seetaramaraju in the film, which is considered to be South India's first CinemaScope film. He went on to star as a child artist in films such as Dongalaku Donga, Manushulu Chesina Dongalu, Annadammula Saval, Needa and Paalu Neelu. He won our hearts with his innocent yet powerful performances in these films.

​Debut as a lead

As an adult, his first feature film was Samrat (1987), which was both critically and commercially successful. He established himself as a leading actor in the 1990s by appearing in a number of commercially successful films, including Chinni Krishnudu, Bazaar Rowdy, Kaliyuga Karnudu, Mugguru Kodukulu, Black Tiger, Krishna Gaari Abbayi, Ayudam, Kaliyuga Abhimanyudu, Shanti Enathu Shanti, Naa Illee Naa Swargam, Mama Kodalu, Anna Chellelu, Pacha Thoranam and Encounter.

​Turns producer for Mahesh Babu's films

Ramesh Babu was a popular actor in the 90s, and his stardom would command decent paycheques. He used that money to form his production company known as Krishna Productions Private Ltd and started producing films. After disappearing from the silver screen, he turned his attention to production and delivered some super successful films such as Amitabh Bachchan starrer Sooryavansham, Mahesh Babu’s Arjun, Athidi, Dookudu and Aagadu.

​Career-best performance and last film

Telugu cinema has had its share of gangster films, and Ramesh Babu starrer 'Bazaar Rowdy' is one among them. He played the character of Ranjeeth, a gangster in the A Kodandarami Reddy directorial. He garnered much attention and immense praise as he steals the show with his unusual antics and remarkable performance. Ramesh Babu was last seen in Encounter, which had stellar performances by superstar Krishna and Roja. But it was Ramesh Babu who wowed the audience playing the role of Suryam.
