The Telugu psychological horror thriller 'Honey' is set for its digital release after its limited run in theatres. Starring
Naveen Chandra in the lead the film struggled to bring audiences to cinemas.
Now the makers hope that streaming platforms will give it a wider reach and according to reports from 123 Telugu the digital rights have been acquired by Sun NXT and the platform has officially locked the premiere date. Honey will stream from February 27 in Telugu and Tamil. The horror film will also stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Story follows dark themes of superstition and moral conflicts
'Honey''s plot revolves around a married couple dealing with financial struggles. Anand, played by Naveen Chandra is introduced as a man who has knowledge of occult practices. Desperation pushes him towards a morally questionable plan involving his daughter. As he pursues this dangerous idea things spiral out of control. The film also stars Divya Pillai, Raja Ravindra and Devi in significant roles.
ETimes verdict
ETimes praised the visual language of the film. Our exclusive review noted, "Visually, the film understands atmosphere. The cinematography and earthy rural setting create an eerie mood, and the background score supports the tension without becoming overwhelming." It added that several sequences were staged with care, allowing dread to grow naturally. However ETimes also pointed out the film’s shortcomings. The review stated that Honey loses steam after a promising setup and becomes predictable in parts. It said, "Where the film stumbles is in sustaining its momentum. After a promising setup, the story begins to feel stretched… The second half doesn’t consistently escalate the suspense, and the conclusion lacks the sharpness that the premise initially suggests."
Although 'Honey' was not able to create much traction during it's theatrical release, the OTT streaming may improve it's reach among the audiences who love a quirky horror movie.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
