‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ to ‘Liger’ - Five Biggest Pan-India Disasters of 2022

The pan-Indian film has become a buzzword of the season in Indian cinema. Where filmmakers make a film with unique/ universal theme and cast actors across industries and release the film in more than one language simultaneously.

Several films have been blockbusters with the above buzzword and strategy and there have been disasters irrespective of how big stars lead the film.

The below list is a take on films that were aggressively made & promoted as Pan-India films but ended up as huge disasters at the Indian box office, have a look at the below list those were released so far....!

​‘Radheshyam’ (2022) – Prabhas, Pooja Hegde

The 2022 Period romantic drama written and directed by Radha Krishna Kumar starring Prabhas and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles tells the story of Vikramaditya, a palmist who is conflicted between destiny and his love for Prerana.

The film had several music directors composing each song and was released as a Pan-India film in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam languages is said to have been made with a massive budget of Rs 300 crores that could only mint over half of the budget at the Indian box-office.

​‘Shamshera’ (2022) – Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor


‘Shamshera’ is a period action film produced by Aditya Chopra under his 'Yash Raj films' banner and it was directed by Karan Malhotra starring Ranbir Kapoor in the dual role for the first time. The film had other important actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor, and Ronit Roy that tell the story of a dacoit tribe and their fight for independence against British Rule. The film also ended up as a huge disaster at the box office.

​‘Samrat Prithviraj’ (2022) – Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar

Yet another hugely budgeted Bollywood historical action drama film by Chandraprakash Dwivedi has come up to tell the story of Prithviraj Chauhan, a Rajput king from the Chahamana Dynasty. The film is reported to have been made with a budget of Rs 200 crores and failed to collect half of its budget in its lifetime collections at the Indian box office, despite it being dubbed and released as a pan-India film in more than one language.

​‘Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) – Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao

This Hindi comedy-drama film made based on the Oscar-winning 1994 American film ‘Forrest Gump’ starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Naga Chaitanya in the pivotal roles is produced by Aamir Khan’s home production. The film is said to have been made with a budget of Rs 180 crores. This film was also dubbed and released in Telugu and Tamil as a Pan-India film despite having such huge stars, the film failed to impress the masses and pull them to the theatres.

​‘Liger’ – Vijay Deverakonda, Ananya Panday


Yet another Pan-India film from Tollywood titled ‘Liger’ is a sports action film by established director Puri Jagannadh, who also happened to be the co-producer of the film, made with a budget of Rs 150 crores. The film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi languages featuring Vijay as an MMA fighter. The film was dubbed and released in multiple languages boasting of a Pan-India content film that turned out to be a huge disaster at the Indian box office.

Note: There are a few more such films lined up in the line of getting dubbed and released in more than one language, we’ll have to wait and watch how these films will fare going forward at the Indian box office.
