Samantha and Anushka to Kajal and Keerthy, Telugu actresses steal the show in handloom outfits

Every year, the National Handloom Day is celebrated on August 7th to honour the handloom weavers and the artisans associated with the handicraft sector in our country. On this occasion, the government of India has pitched for 'Aatma Nirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) and urged to support handmade items. Along with leaders, several celebrities took to social media and urged everyone to be "vocal for local" and handmade products. Over the years, popular Telugu actresses like Samantha Akkineni, Kajal Aggarwal, Anushka Shetty, Keerthy Suresh and Pooja Hegde have slipped into handloom outfits on numerous occasions and nailed it. In 2017, Samantha Akkineni has been appointed as the new brand ambassador for Telangana’s handloom industry. Since then, she has been wearing handloom outfits to film promotions, private events and some photo-shoots as well. A couple of years ago, on the occasion of National Handloom Day, the 33-year-old actor has organised WOVEN, a fashion show featuring the rich weaves of Telangana’s skilled artisans.

For a ribbon-cutting ceremony in 2019, Kajal Aggarwal stunned the onlookers by appearing in a yellow and blue combination Kanjeevaram silk saree and styled her look with a ruby choker, neutral makeup and wavy hair. Besides reprising Kangana Ranaut’s role in the Tamil remake of Queen and romancing Chiranjeevi in Koratala Siva’s Acharya, the 35-year-old actress is busy with a string of big-ticket films like Indian 2, Mumbai Saga and an international project with Manchu Vishnu titled as Mosagallu. She is also teaming up with Malayalam heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan for a romantic thriller.

During the audio launch of Baahubali 2 in Chennai, Anushka Shetty stole the show by appearing in a parrot green Kanjeevaram saree with a heavy gold border paired with matching elbow length sleeves blouse. She complemented her look with a ruby necklace set and a side swept braid. On the work front, the release of Anushka’a forthcoming film Nishabdham has been postponed owing to COVID-19 crisis. Touted to be a suspense-thriller, the crossover film features an ensemble star cast like Madhavan, Michael Madsen, Anjali, Shalini Pandey, Subbaraju and Srinivasa Avasarala in pivotal roles.

In 2018, former Chief Minister of AP, Nara Chandrababu Naidu felicitated Keerthy Suresh for her impeccable performance as Savitri in the legendary actress biopic titled ‘Mahanati’. The ceremony took place in Amaravathi and the national award-winning actress became the cynosure of all eyes by appearing in a handloom kalamkari saree paired with contrast blue full sleeves. She accessorized her look with a statement silver choker and earrings.

For a friend’s wedding in 2018, gorgeous gal Pooja Hegde slipped into a handloom banarasi lehenga enhanced with stamen jewellery, bold makeup and a hair-bun adorned with mogra flowers. After registering three solid hits in 2019, the 29-year-old actress kicked-off 2020 with the monstrous success of ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’ starring Allu Arjun as the protagonist. Besides romancing Prabhas in Jaan and Akhil Akkineni in Most Eligible Bachelor, she has been roped in to play the leading lady opposite Salman Khan in the upcoming Hindi film ‘Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali’.
