Sita Raman, Geethanjali, Tholi Prema: Romance in South films redefined across generations with changing hearts and hopes

Love stories in Telugu cinema have changed a lot over the years, but all these stories have one thing in common that they show how hearts change with time and also how hope in love never dies. Telugu movies have beautifully captured this journey of changing romance across generations.

‘Geethanjali’

This classic film directed by Mani Ratnam is a beautiful story of two people who meet in a hill station. Nagarjuna plays a man who finds out he has a serious illness and goes away to live quietly. There he meets Geethanjali, a cheerful girl, who also hides her own pain. Slowly, they fall in love and enjoy life despite knowing it may not last long. The film shows that true love doesn’t need a future but it’s also about living fully in the present.

3/7

‘Sita Ramam’

This film is a beautiful love story which is set in the 1960s between a soldier, Ram, and a mysterious girl, Sita and their love begins through letters, without even meeting each other. It also shows how pure and respectful love can be, even when tested by war, distance, and secrets. The performances of Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur added depth and charm and also the visuals, music, and emotional storyline made people cry and smile.

4/7

‘Tholi Prema’

Starring Pawan Kalyan, this film became a favourite of many young viewers in the late 90s, it is about first love which is pure and innocent. The story of the film shows a young man who falls in love at first sight but never confesses his feelings and instead he quietly helps and supports the girl without expecting anything in return, the film beautifully shows that how real love is not about getting someone but also about caring for them selflessly no matter what.

5/7

‘Fidaa’

Starring Sai Pallavi and Varun Tej, this film tells the story of a Telangana girl and an NRI boy. Their worlds are very different, she values her family and culture, while he is used to life abroad. Despite falling in love, their differences create tension. The film beautifully shows how real love means accepting each other’s background and dreams. Sai Pallavi’s strong and bold character became an inspiration for many girls.

6/7

‘Premam’

This film is about a boy named Vikram who goes through three different love stories at different stages of his life. Each love teaches him something new, school crush, college romance, and mature understanding. The movie shows how people change over time, and so do their ideas of love. Sometimes love fails, sometimes it teaches, and sometimes it stays forever.

7/7

‘100% Love’

This is a fun and youthful story of rivalry and romance between two intelligent students. Starring Naga Chaitanya and Tamannaah, it shows how ego and competition can affect relationships. But slowly, love grows through friendship, jealousy, and fights. The film is full of humorous yet emotional moments. It speaks to the new generation where love often begins with friendship and grows with maturity.
