‘They Call Him OG’: Sujeeth shares how a last minute poster panic gave Pawan Kalyan’s OG its title
Director Sujeeth last helmed the Pawan Kalyan starrer action thriller ‘They Call Him OG’. Recently, the director shared how the film unexpectedly got its title.
In a recent chat with Galatta Plus, Sujeeth revealed that he wasn’t even in India when the title ‘OG’ was locked and that it was never meant to be final. According to him, it all began as a placeholder.
“One day, the producer called and said we were going to release the poster the next day. I wasn’t even in India. I was like, ‘Okay,’ and they sent me a poster, which was very bad. After many years, after Saaho released, after my marriage, and after COVID, I was releasing a movie, and this was the poster,” he said.
By morning, his ADs sent multiple new designs, many of them featuring Pawan Kalyan with strong Japanese-inspired visuals. While the imagery felt powerful, Sujeeth felt something was missing, a line that could tie it all together.
He also shared that he always had the idea of ‘They Call Him OG’ in his mind. The line got instant approval, and once the poster dropped, it went viral almost immediately. “When I later tried to give it another name, people said it was a good title. So I had to write the character to match it, like Ojas Gambheera and all,” he added.

Sujeeth felt the poster wasn’t working
He added that around 2 am, he called the producer and told him that if the poster wasn’t working, it was fine to replace it before 7 am, before showing it to Pawan Kalyan. From abroad, Sujeeth rang up all his assistant directors in India and asked them to come up with anything, just a better poster, urgently.By morning, his ADs sent multiple new designs, many of them featuring Pawan Kalyan with strong Japanese-inspired visuals.
