When is Chaitra Navratri 2026

According to Drik Panchang, Chaitra Navratri 2026 falls from March 19 to March 27, starting with Ghatasthapana on Thursday, March 19 (Pratipada tithi). Ghatasthapana Muhurat will last between 06:52 AM to 07:43 AM. This is a total duration of about 50 minutes.

Why are colours important for each day in Navratri

Wearing specific colours each day aligns with the Navadurga forms, channeling their energies for blessings. Based in Vedic traditions, colours vibrate with chakras and planetary influences, boosting devotion.

Here are the nine colours for each day of Chaitra Navratri 2026.

Day 1: Maa Shailputri - Yellow

On Day 1 of Navratri, after the self-immolation as Goddess Sati, Goddess Parvati took birth as the daughter of Lord Himalaya. In Sanskrit, Shail means the mountain and due to which the Goddess was known as Shailputri, the daughter of the mountain. This sunny shade reflects her pure energy and strength, like the first rays of dawn. Yellow sparks the solar plexus chakra, boosting confidence and new beginnings. Day 2: Maa Brahmacharini - Green

Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta - Grey

Day 6: Maa Katyayani - Red

Fasting Rules

Vrat from Ghatasthapana to Navami: The people performing the vrat from 9 days should not consume, grains, onions/garlic. Eat once a day -falhar, apart from this Buckwheat, yam, fruits allowed. Break the fast on Navami/Ram Navami.
