In 2020, Vaughn was filmed shaking hands and chatting with Trump at the college football national championship game. Though some viewed the interaction as an endorsement, the actor dismissed the controversy, saying that he has been equally cordial with politicians across the spectrum, including Nancy Pelosi and James Carville, and called the Trump encounter brief and apolitical.
