2 years after student's suicide, teacher held for abetment

YAMUNANAGAR: Two years and a long legal battle later, a teacher has been arrested on Wednesday for abetting the suicide of a class XII student here.
After class XII, student of a private school Ranjan Sharma set himself afire in December 2011, his mother Sunita had alleged that his teacher had driven him to take the extreme step. The boy also had left a suicide note in which he accused the teacher of harassing him.
With the police failing to take action, the boy's mother approached the high court pleading for action against the teacher.

Resident of Yamunangar, Ranjan Sharma, who was 12th student in a private school of the city had set himself on fire on the night of December 2011.
In his suicide note, Ranjan had mentioned that his teacher, Rakesh, a resident of Jagadhri, had insulted him before others for abstaining from school for two days. Apart from this, the school also had fined him. Sunita, who is also a teacher in a private school, filed an FIR against the teacher, principal and management of the school. Although the FIR was lodged immediately, police did not take action and nobody was arrested in the case.
Sunita alleged that police were trying to cancel the FIR. She approached the court and following which a team of state crime branch was constituted to probe the case. The team arrested the teacher on Wednesday and produced before the court.
