Assam, West Bengal Election 2021 Live Updates: 'No disruption in polling,' says EC on chaos complaints at Nandigram booth

Days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused her then confidant and present rival Suvendu Adhikari of being involved in the 2007 violence in Nandigram, the CPM on Thursday said the remarks vindicated the party's stand and "exposed the truth about the incident" in which 14 people lost their lives. "From the right-wing RSS, the fundamentalist forces to the ultra-Left and the Maoists -- all ganged up, brought in illegal arms to create this unrest in Nandigram in 2007. Now, everything is exposed. Both Mamata and the Adhikaris have confirmed this," party general secretary Sitaram Yechury said.

The complaint said that BJP workers "are attempting to take control of EVM and are rigging the booth". It alleged that Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed at the booth had not taken any action. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who talked to media persons in Nandigram, said that the party has lodged 63 complaints with Election Commission.

Congress on Thursday claimed that the alliance led by it will reach the majority mark of 64 in the 126-member Assam Assembly from the results of the first two phases of the election. AICC spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said that the Congress-led Grand Alliance is on track to achieve its target of winning 101 seats in the elections. The Congress, which was in power for 15 years in Assam since 2001, has formed a Grand Alliance with the AIUDF, BPF, Left parties, the RJD and others to fight the Assembly election against the BJP-led NDA.

In a letter to the poll panel, TMC claimed that CRPF personnel, posted at booth number 197 in Nandigram, were seen exhibiting improper behaviour, with some even intimidating women. Such conduct by the CRPF men deployed on polling duty represents "their partisan conduct which is prejudicial for the Trinamool", the letter said. The party demanded that the security team, seen "misbehaving" at the polling station, be immediately replaced and strict action be taken against the accused personnel.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee questioned Prime minister Narendra Modi's campaigns in West Bengal amidst the second phase of polling on Thursday saying it is a violation of the model code of conduct. "Why Narendra Modi comes to Bengal on every polling day? Why will he campaign on election day? If we cannot campaign in election areas then why he addresses the people with all facilities including Doordarshan on polling day? Is it not a violation of the model code of conduct?" Banerjee raised these questions while talking to mediapersons. Banerjee's remark came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held rallies in Jaynagar and Uluberia on Thursday.
