Arvind Kejriwal News Live: Ruckus in MCD House over Swati Maliwal's assault allegation

A ruckus erupted in the MCD House here on Tuesday over the allegations of Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal that she was assaulted by a member of Arvind Kejriwal's personal staff at the chief minister's official residence. BJP and Congress councillors stormed into the well of the House as soon as the proceedings began and started raising slogans against Kejriwal and demanding his resignation over the incident.

They raised slogans such as "Kejriwal haye haye" and "Kejriwal istifa do".

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday condoled the demise of former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who passed away on Monday due to cancer.

In a post on X, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, "Received the sad news of the demise of former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Modi. May God give a place to the departed soul and give strength to his loved ones and supporters in this hour of grief."

The 72-year-old senior BJP leader passed away at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi.

Sushil Modi announced his treatment last month and did not participate in the Lok Sabha election campaign. The last rites of the former Rajya Sabha MP will be performed later in the day.

On April 3, this year, Sushil Modi revealed he was suffering from cancer and requested the BJP to relieve him of assignments related to the Lok Sabha elections.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday told the Supreme Court that he would explore settlement with one Vikas Sankrityayan, on whose complaint a Delhi court had issued summons to the CM for retweeting an alleged defamatory video on BJP IT cell posted by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in May 2018.

For Kejriwal, senior advocate A M Singhvi said that though the CM had on Feb 26 had admitted to his mistake in retweeting Rathee’s video and assured the court on March 11 that he would explore settlement with Sankrityayan, it could not be initiated as Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 and was in custody till May 10 when SC granted him interim bail.

Swati Maliwal, an AAP MP, alleged that she was assaulted by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's PA, Bibhav, at his direction. The incident occurred at Kejriwal's residence in north Delhi.

After a distress call to the police, Maliwal visited the Civil Lines police station to file an FIR but left after receiving calls, promising to return. The police are considering legal advice on how to proceed based on her PCR call, as no FIR was filed till late Monday. The altercation has caused a stir on social media and within AAP, especially with elections approaching.

A court on Monday deferred taking cognisance of a fresh chargesheet filed by Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Bharat Rashtra Samiti’s K Kavitha in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

The court of special judge Kaveri Baweja will hear it again on Tuesday. The chargesheet, which names Kavitha as an accused, has been filed under Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with AAP’s municipal councillors on Monday and praised them for “not succumbing to pressure from BJP and central agencies”.

AAP functionaries said Kejriwal also took stock of the work done by the councillors and asked them to keep working for the welfare of people.

This was Kejriwal’s first meeting with municipal councillors after his release from Tihar Jail on interim bail granted by the Supreme Court last week to campaign in the ongoing elections. Arvind Kejriwal latest news: Delhi CM Kejriwal lauds performance of state govt-run schools in CBSE board exam results

The Delhi government on Monday announced that 96.99 per cent class 12th students and 94.2 per cent class 10th students studying in the schools run by them came out with flying colours in the CBSE 2024 exam results. This marks a nine per cent high in the Delhi government school results as compared to the national average of CBSE, it said.

The class 12th board results in the Delhi government schools have registered an increase of 5.4 per cent while class 10th results have improved by 8.36 per cent from the previous year's performance.

According to an official statement, 307 of the Delhi government schools have achieved 100 per cent result in class 12th, a 2.5 times increase compared to 118 of last year.

Meanwhile, 327 schools have achieved 100 per cent result in class 10th board, up from 124 last year.

It further said 863 schools have achieved more than 90 per cent result in class 12th board which has increased from 647 schools last year.
