Delhi Election Result Live: AAP, BJP, Congress lock horns in a high-stakes power battle
The Delhi Assembly election results for 2025 will be declared today bringing a crucial verdict for the city's political future. The voting process, completed on February 5 in one phase, witnessed participation from more than 15 million registered voters across all 70 constituencies. The electoral contest featured 699 candidates, comprising 603 men and 96 women candidates.
The outcome holds significant importance as the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strives to secure its fourth straight term in office. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) endeavours to return to power after an absence of nearly 27 years, whilst the Congress party, previously influential in Delhi's governance, attempts to strengthen its position in the assembly.
Delhi Assembly Election Results: All parties dismiss exit polls
None of the parties are relying on exit polls. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj pointed out on Wednesday that past exit polls had underestimated the party’s performance in 2013 and 2015 and predicted fewer seats than AAP actually won in 2020. “Exit polls always show AAP getting fewer votes, but in many areas of my constituency, people personally assured me that AAP would win,” he claimed.
AAP campaigned for a third term based on its track record in health, education, water, and other sectors, including free power and water for low consumers and free bus rides for women. The party has promised additional welfare measures for women, senior citizens, and other groups.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva expressed confidence in a decisive victory. “Our win will be even more spectacular than what exit polls predict,” he said on Friday. The BJP, out of power in Delhi for nearly 26 years, pledged to maintain existing welfare schemes while introducing new benefits and promised accelerated development through a "double-engine government."
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav dismissed exit poll predictions, emphasizing his party’s strong grassroots campaign. “Our efforts will translate into votes. We worked hard to rebuild our cadre,” he said, also reminding voters of the large-scale development under Sheila Dikshit’s Congress government from 1998 to 2013.
Delhi Election Results 2025: Who’ll lead Delhi? Suspense to be over in a few hours
In just a few hours, the outcome of Delhi’s high-stakes electoral battle for 70 assembly seats will be revealed. While the main contest is widely seen as a fight between the ruling AAP and the BJP, which has been in opposition since 1998, Congress could shake up the race with an unexpected result or two.
The vote counting begins at 8 am, with early trends expected by 9:30 am. By 1 pm, Delhi may have a clear indication of who will govern for the next five years.
AAP and Congress each fielded candidates in all 70 constituencies, while BJP contested 68 seats, leaving two for its allies—Janata Dal (United) and Loktantrik Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). In total, 699 candidates contested the election, including 603 men, 95 women, and one third-gender candidate. Voter turnout stood at 60.5%, with 9,451,997 of the 15,614,000 registered electors casting their votes on February 5.
Delhi Assembly Election Results: Will AAP’s winning streak continue, or is BJP set for a comeback?
The upcoming Delhi Assembly elections in 2025 represent a significant political challenge for both AAP and BJP parties. Under Arvind Kejriwal's leadership, AAP has maintained control since 2015, securing 67 seats in that year and 62 seats in 2020.
Should AAP emerge victorious, it would strengthen Kejriwal's leadership in Delhi whilst enhancing his political standing nationally. Nevertheless, current exit polls indicate AAP might struggle to achieve a majority, whilst the BJP appears positioned for a potential return to power.
Delhi Assembly Election Results: How many seats are required for a party to form the government?
A political party requires 36 seats to establish a majority in Delhi's 70-member Assembly. Projections indicate that the BJP, which hasn't held power in Delhi since 1998, will likely emerge as the dominant party, whilst AAP is predicted to experience a considerable decline.
Having governed Delhi for 15 years until 2013, the Congress party aims to bounce back from its poor showing in the previous two elections, where it drew a blank.
Delhi Assembly Election Results: When will the counting process begin
The counting of votes will begin at 8am.
The vote tallying will be carried out with rigorous security protocols and complete transparency. A workforce of 5,000 staff members has been positioned to facilitate an orderly and impartial counting operation.
Each constituency's Returning Officer (RO) will supervise the proceedings, encompassing both Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tabulation and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slip verification. To maintain precision, five VVPATs will be chosen at random from every constituency for authentication.

Delhi Assembly Election Results: AAP eyes third term
The Bharatiya Janata Party appears poised to return to power in Delhi following a 27-year absence, with exit polls suggesting a decisive victory and an unexpected setback for the Aam Aadmi Party, potentially ending Arvind Kejriwal's decade-long political dominance.
According to consolidated exit poll data, the BJP is projected to secure 43 seats, whilst the AAP might trail significantly with 26 seats. In the Delhi assembly of 70 members, 36 seats are required for a majority.
The majority of exit polls, barring two, indicate a BJP triumph in Delhi. People's Pulse, one of the surveys predicting a BJP victory, suggests the NDA could obtain between 51 to 60 seats, with the AAP securing only 10-19 seats. The survey indicates that the Congress party is unlikely to win any seats.

During the early hours, AAP leader Manish Sisodia claimed money being distributed from a residence in Jangpura, supporting his allegation with video evidence shared on X.

P-Marq indicated a stronger showing for BJP with 39-44 seats, whilst People's Pulse projected 51-60 seats, suggesting a victory comparable to AAP's previous successes in 2015 and 2020.
WeePreside, however, predicted a different outcome, suggesting AAP would secure 46-52 seats, limiting BJP to a maximum of 23 seats. This forecast suggests another setback for Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 years before AAP's rise to power.
