Pahalgam Terror Attack News Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to seeking justice for the victims of the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, declaring that the country would "pursue the terrorists to the end of the earth." Addressing the nation on National Panchayati Raj Day in Bihar's Madhubani, PM Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives in the attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including tourists, in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.
PM Modi delivered a powerful message, asserting that India would not rest until justice is served. He emphasized the nation's resolve to track down every terrorist involved in the attack, along with their handlers and backers. "The entire nation is saddened by the brutality with which terrorists killed innocent civilians in Pahalgam," he said. "We stand with the families of the victims, and today, from the soil of Bihar, I say to the whole world: India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist. We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth. India's spirit will never be broken by terrorism."
PM Modi also made it clear that those behind the attack would face a punishment far greater than they could imagine, adding, "The willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the back of the masters of terror."
Earlier in the speech, the Prime Minister led a moment of silence to honor the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. "Let us all stand together in this moment of grief and observe a one-minute silence. I urge everyone to observe silence for a couple of minutes to pay homage to the family members we lost in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22," PM Modi said, following which he chanted 'Om Shanti'.
In response to the attack, the Centre has called for an all-party meeting in Parliament to discuss the security situation and the aftermath of the attack. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will chair the meeting later in the day.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also announced key measures taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to address the situation:
- The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 will be held in abeyance with immediate effect.
- The Attari Integrated Checkpost will be closed immediately.
- Pakistani nationals will no longer be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme.
- Defence, Military, Naval, and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi are declared persona non grata and have a week to leave India.
- India will withdraw its own Defence, Navy, and Air advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, with these positions being annulled.
PM Modi also thanked global leaders and the international community for standing with India during this challenging time. "Everyone who believes in humanity is on our side," he said, highlighting the collective resolve to fight against terrorism.
The Pahalgam attack, which targeted tourists in Jammu and Kashmir, has further underscored the need for decisive and coordinated action to eliminate terrorism from the region. As India strengthens its resolve, it remains united in the pursuit of justice for the victims.
