New Parliament Building Inauguration Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday installed the sacred 'Sengol' in the Lok Sabha chamber, right next to the Speaker's chair in the new Parliament building, after performing puja. New parliament building opening live: Who is coming to the inauguration?
Besides BJP MPs, ministers and chief ministers, leaders of around 25 parties will be attending the inauguration event.

Apart from the BJP, 18 NDA members will be present for the event. They are Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), National People's Party, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, Jannayak Janata Party, AIDMK, IMKMK, AJSU, RPI, Mizo National Front, Tamil Maanila Congress, ITFT (Tripura), Bodo People's Party, Pattali Makkal Kacchi, MGP, Apna Dal and AGP.

The BSP, Shiromani Akali Dal, Janata Dal (Secular), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), YSR Congress, BJD and TDP are the seven non-NDA parties likely to attend the event.

The chief architect of the new parliament building, Bimal Patel and reputed industrialist Ratan Tata whose company TATA has constructed the new building have also been invited to the inauguration of the new building. An invitation has also been sent to certain prominent personalities, including film stars and sports persons.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar on Saturday said that he stands with the opposition parties' call for boycotting the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament on May 28 as the decision was taken without considering anyone."Even no discussion on anything about the inauguration program was considered. All the decisions were taken without considering anyone. Therefore, some senior Opposition leaders have taken the decision that we should not go for the program and I support their decision," the NCP chief said while talking to reporters here.

Ahead of protesting wrestlers' march towards the new Parliament House, security has been beefed up in the national capital.

On Saturday protesting wrestlers said that they have decided to hold a women's Maha Panchayat in front of the new Parliament building on Sunday.

Following this, Delhi Police have put up barricades near ITO road, the Tikri border and the Singhu border area as Khap Panchayat leaders and farmers are also likely to join the protesting wrestlers' march.

Amid the political row over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to inaugurate the new Parliament, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said the Opposition is unnecessarily opposing the inauguration.

"Opposition is unnecessarily opposing the inauguration of the New Parliament Building by PM Modi as PM Modi and Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla laid the foundation stone of the Parliament and today they will be inaugurating the Parliament itself. I don't find anything wrong," Goa CM told ANI.

As the new Parliament building built in independent India, to replace the one built during colonial rule, gets a grand opening on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at Congress on Saturday for not giving “due respect” to the historic sceptre — sengol — which the government has termed a symbol of the transfer of power from the British in 1947. The sceptre, which will be installed in the new building, will always keep reminding his government to walk on the path of duty and remain answerable to the public, he said. As many as 19 parties led by Congress are likely to boycott the opening ceremony, contending that the new Parliament should be inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu, and not the PM, as she is the head of state.

Security has been stepped up in Lutyens' Delhi ahead of the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday at an elaborate ceremony to be attended by many eminent personalities.

Police have already issued a traffic advisory that the New Delhi district will be treated as a controlled area for the period and entry of vehicles will be restricted.

The Parliament building is located in a high-security area. Besides additional deployment, there is continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras, the police said.
