SRINAGAR: National Conference president and member of Parliament Omar Abdullah has conveyed his disappointment over the functioning of cell-phones in Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar, who called on Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Arun Shourie recently, said, while the mobile phone service long desired by the people of J&K raised expectations and hopes, but have only brought along disappointment for them.
The people of Srinagar feel cheated that what was promised to them was a world class service and what they have received is worse than networks in third world countries.
He informed the minister about the ongoing disagreement between the telecom department and the state electricity department regarding the root cause of the problems asked Shourie to intervene to resolve the matter expeditiously.
Omar said, "people have great expectations from a dynamic minister like Shourie and expect him to succeed where those before him have failed."
Shourie assured Omar president that he will personally look into the matter and he ensures the people of J&K get a service they expect and deserve.
