Shillong: Lok Sabha MP Ricky AJ Syngkon died on Thursday after collapsing while playing futsal in Shillong, reports Manosh Das.
The 54-year-old MP from Meghalaya's Voice of the People Party was playing with friends when he collapsed. He was rushed to a community health centre and later admitted to the city's Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital, where he died shortly after at 8.42pm.
Chief minister Conrad K Sangma expressed shock, describing Syngkon as a committed public representative.
Syngkon, who represented Shillong constituency, was known for his active public engagements across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills. He won the 2024 elections by 3.7 lakh votes over his nearest rival, Congress MP Vincent H Pala.
