Why to avoid these foods with ghee

Ghee, the Golden Liquid consumed in Indian homes, is a rich source of nutrition. It has also been a part of Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Rich healthy fats, ghee is excellent for boosting digestion, improving nutrient absorption, and promoting a healthy gut. It contains butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid that supports gut lining health and reduces inflammation. Ghee is also packed with fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K, which are essential for strong immunity, healthy skin, and bones. While it pairs well with roti, dal and many other foods and helps improve the nutritional values of the dishes, there are foods with which one should avoid pairing ghee, as they might turn harmful when paired together. Scroll down to read about 7 such foods that when paired with ghee turn harmful and should be avoided.

Honey and Ghee

As per Ayurveda, mixing honey and ghee in equal amounts can create a toxic concoction that may lead to digestive and metabolic issues. It is said that combining them together can disrupt gut flora, and over time, may lead to toxin buildup in the body.

3/8

Fish and Ghee

Fish are considered heating in nature, while ghee has a cooling effect. Hence, combining them together may disturb digestion and cause toxicity in the body, leading to skin problems like rashes or allergies.

4/8

Radish and Ghee

Radish, a root vegetable, is pungent and heating in nature, and when it is consumed with ghee, which is oily and cooling in nature, the combination might cause unrest and lead to digestive issues like bloating, acidity, or indigestion.

5/8

Curd and Ghee

Both curd and ghee are heavy and oily, and combining them can slow down the functioning of the digestive system. As per experts, consuming curd and ghee together may cause sluggish digestion, toxins (Ama) buildup, and even cause skin issues.

6/8

Salt and Ghee

As per Ayurveda, consuming salt and ghee together in large amounts may increase water retention and may hinder digestion. It is said that the combination is believed to increase pitta (heat) in the body, leading to inflammation or skin problems.

7/8

Meat and ghee

Meat and ghee when combined together become quite heavy for the digestive system and should be avoided. Meat is heavy to digest, and adding ghee on top makes it even heavier, leading to sluggish digestion, acidity, and toxins. As per Ayurveda, one should avoid this combo to keep digestion light and smooth.

8/8

Fruit and Ghee

It is said that consuming ghee with fruits is not a good idea. Fruit is light, while ghee is heavy and oily. Combining them can slow down digestion, cause fermentation in the gut, leading to bloating and gas.
