Benefits of eating sweet potato

Sweet potatoes are a nutritious and naturally sweet root vegetable. They are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Per 100 g of this root vegetable offers 86 calories and 3 g of fiber and is also rich in vitamins C and B6, potassium, and manganese, making it a healthy choice for people of all age groups. They have a lower glycemic index than white potatoes (especially when boiled), making them suitable for diabetics when consumed in moderation. According to a study, it has been found that a compound called Ipomoea batatas in sweet potatoes is effective in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Sweet potatoes are said to have gut-friendly fiber, which helps with digestion and keeps you fuller longer. They are rich in beta-carotene and polyphenols. It is mentioned in the study that sweet potato helps improve insulin sensitivity and help regulate blood sugar levels. According to study, sweet potatoes also contain flavonoids and carotenoids that help lower LDL cholesterol, reduce inflammation, improve endothelial function, and decrease blood pressure. As per food experts, one can pair roasted or sautéed sweet potatoes with boiled, scrambled, or poached eggs for a protein-rich, filling breakfast that goes well with some sauteed veggies on the side.

Greek Yogurt / Curd



Sweet potato can be paired with thick curd or Greek yogurt adding probiotics and protein, which help support digestion and gut health. One can mix roasted sweet potato along with Greek yogurt to make a filling side dish. They can also be served as fries and dip with seasoning.

Nuts & Seeds



Roasted or charred sweet potato when mashed and mixed is combined with salted and roasted nuts and seeds like almonds, walnuts, pumpkin or chia seeds, they make for a filling spread that can be slathered on toast or can be paired with multigrain crackers which are rich in healthy fats and crunch, helping balance sweet potato’s natural carbs.
