How to make protein-rich chickpea chaat for weight loss

If you’re trying to lose weight but still crave chaat or something a little indulgent, chickpea chaat is your answer. It’s filling, flavourful, and skips all the heaviness of fried papdis and sugary chutneys. A 100-gram serving of chickpeas alone gives you a solid dose of protein, and when you pair that with other protein-rich add-ins, it’s hard not to notice real changes in your body. The best part? It takes just minutes to put together. Scroll down and see how easily you can make it yourself.

Ingredients you’ll need

For this chickpea chaat, you’ll need boiled chickpeas, chopped onions, tomatoes, cucumber, green chillies, and fresh coriander. Lemon juice is a must for freshness, while tamarind water is optional if you like an extra tang. The spices include roasted cumin powder, black salt, and red chilli powder. For a colourful touch - you can also add pomegranate seeds or boiled sprouts.

How to make it

Take a bowl of boiled chickpeas and toss in the chopped onions, tomatoes, and cucumber. Sprinkle over the cumin, black salt, and chilli powder, then for that tangy taste, add a good squeeze of lemon. Give everything a nice mix so the flavours mix with each chickpea. Finish with a handful of fresh coriander, and if you’re craving that street-side crunch - a little sev on top does the trick, just sprinkle a little if you’re keeping it weight-loss friendly. Serve it right away or chill it for a bit; either way, it’s a snack that comes together in under ten minutes.

4/4

Why it’s good for you

This chaat isn’t just for taste or to satisfy your cravings - it’s actually pretty amazing for your body as well. Chickpeas are loaded with protein and fibre, which means they keep you full for longer and prevent those random snack cravings. The veggies add vitamins and hydration, while lemon juice helps with digestion and gives a boost of vitamin C. Unlike regular chaats that are deep-fried and heavy, this one is light yet nourishing. It supports muscle repair if you’re working out, balances blood sugar, and fuels you without unnecessary calories. In short, it’s that rare snack that feels indulgent - but works in your favour when you’re watching your weight.
