Actress Priyanka Chopra is known for her deep-rooted connection with Indian customs, traditions and foods. While she has been living abroad, her love for Indian festivals and foods is quite evident, as she frequently shares joyful moments on social media that connect her to her roots and desi foods. What does Priyanka drink in summer


During a candid chat with Chef Josh from Mythical Kitchen, the Bollywood icon opened up about her favourite Indian drinks to cool down with. In a candid chat when she was asked what her favourite Indian drink is, she replied, “This will be controversial. Don’t come after me, okay? Not a fan of lassi, because it’s sweet. I don’t like sweet very much. I like either chaas, which is buttermilk, from Maharashtra or South Indian style buttermilk.”

What is Buttermilk


It is a fermented dairy drink traditionally made with liquid left over after churning butter from cream. It’s slightly tangy and is said to keep the gut healthy and cool during summer months.

What is South Indian Buttermilk


South Indian buttermilk is a spiced yogurt-based drink commonly called chaas, neer mor, majjige, or sambaram, and is made by mixing curd with water and whisking it with salt, spices and herbs like curry leaves, green chilli, cumin, coriander and hing.

Benefits of Buttermilk


Buttermilk is a healthy and refreshing summer drink that improves digestion, as it contains healthy bacteria and is light on the stomach. It is a rich source of calcium and phosphorus, and its regular intake is associated with increased bone mineral density and a reduced risk of osteoporosis as well. Also, it is low in fat and calories. It also helps reduce acidity and provide energy throughout the day. According to a study, daily consumption of buttermilk leads to significant reductions in total cholesterol (−3.1%), LDL cholesterol (−3.1%), and triglycerides (−10.7%). The research study also indicates that buttermilk consumption can modestly reduce blood pressure.

What to add to buttermilk to make it more nutritious: Roasted cumin powder

It is said to balance pitta dosha (heat) in the body and cool you down in summer. According to Ayurveda cumin powder also stimulates digestive enzymes, helping the stomach break down food more efficiently and digest it easily.

It is said to stimulate digestive enzymes and bile production, which makes it easier to digest heavy meals. Ginger also helps reduce gas, acidity, and stomach cramps.
