Pregnant mothers' health is important in determining the development of the heart in their babies. Among all variables, hypertension and gestational diabetes need special attention, as they have the potential to riskily enhance heart disease among infants, both before and after birth.Gestational Diabetes happens when the mother is pregnant and has elevated blood glucose, and can directly affect the way in which the organs of the baby, including the heart, develop and function. Excessive blood sugar levels can harden the walls of the baby's heart, a process that disrupts normal heart functioning. With uncontrolled gestational diabetes, there is a greater risk of having congenital heart defects. Infants whose mothers have this condition may also have abnormal heart rhythms or trouble breathing at birth, and they are also more likely to develop heart disease or become obese later in life.Pregnant hypertension is another significant risk to the heart health of infants. It can lower blood pressure and cause reduced oxygen and nutrient delivery from the placenta to the infant, resulting in disrupted development and growth of the infant's organs.
This will contribute to reduced blood flow, low birth weight, and preterm delivery, all causing enhanced risk of cardiovascular disease in adulthood. Children of women with high blood pressure are also at risk of acquiring high blood pressure and heart disease when they grow up. In advanced cases of the disorder, such as preeclampsia, the high blood pressure leads to complications like placental abruption, which is perilous to both mother and child.Luckily, there are a number of preventive measures that mothers can take to ensure the healthy operation of their baby's heart during pregnancy. Regular prenatal appointments need to be followed to check for blood pressure and blood sugar. Proper nutrition in the form of whole grains, lean proteins, vegetables, and fruits helps maintain maternal and fetal well-being. Appropriate levels of physical exercise, as endorsed by a physician, also help prevent complications.
