'I was tired of looking at myself in the mirror': Amy Schumer stuns in red mini dress after major weight loss with Mounjaro
Amy Schumer has never been shy about speaking her mind, even when her honesty hasn’t always landed well. So when it came to discussing her personal life, struggles with weight, and the fact that she’s had liposuction and uses weight-loss medication, her openness felt less shocking and more refreshing. This week, the comedian turned heads in New York, confidently stepping out in a red Valentino dress that reflected not just a physical transformation, but a sense of comfort in her own skin.Schumer, 44, has shed around 40 pounds and now maintains an estimated weight of 130 pounds, a change she attributes partly to the diabetes and weight-loss drug Mounjaro. Her appearance at Mark Ronson’s Night People book event drew attention not because of shock value, but because of the quiet confidence it radiated. For years, Schumer has documented her ups and downs with health, weight, and body image. Her transparency has been much appreciated by people who are used to filtered and perfect lives of celebs.

She’s also been known to post unfiltered mirror selfies, such as a recent photo in a purple bra and sweatpants captioned to make clear there was “no filter” and “no filler.” In an industry where airbrushed transformations are often passed off as “clean eating” or “discipline,” Schumer has kept her audience firmly in the loop about what’s real and what’s not.

"I was tired of looking at myself in the mirror.”: Her weight loss journey

Schumer’s first opened about her weight loss in 2022, when she admitted to having liposuction following major surgery for endometriosis. “It's not about needing to be slamming, because I've never been famous for being hot,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “But I'd reached a place where I was tired of looking at myself in the mirror.” She was equally frank about the toll of her condition, sharing that she’d had her uterus and appendix removed in 2021 and that recovery was long and difficult.Following the surgery, Schumer experimented with the weight-loss drug Wegovy, which helped her lose 30 pounds but came with debilitating side effects. “I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son,” she told Andy Cohen. “I lost 30 pounds so quick. I looked great, but I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow. So what’s the point?”That experience led her to stop using Wegovy altogether. Three years later, she tried a different GLP-1 drug, Mounjaro, and described it as “a really good experience.” In a social media update earlier this year, she shared that the medication, combined with hormone therapy for perimenopause, had helped her feel stronger and more energetic. “My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy, I want to get down more, if you know what I mean,” she joked.

Health scares and self-acceptance

Schumer’s health journey is not just limited to weight loss. In 2024, she revealed that she’d been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome after noticing her face had become “puffier.”

“While I was doing press on camera for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up,” she told News Not Noise. “So finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I'm healthy was the greatest news imaginable.”That revelation, and the public scrutiny that preceded it, reinforced her call for empathy. “Everyone is struggling with something. Maybe we can all be a little kinder to each other and ourselves,” she said.

Radical honesty in a filtered world

If Schumer’s red-dress moment felt triumphant, it’s because it wasn’t an illusion. Over the years, she has repeatedly called out the culture of secrecy around celebrity transformations. “Everyone has been lying saying, ‘Oh, smaller portions.’ Like shut the f--- up. You are on Ozempic or one of those things or you got work done. Just stop,” she said on Watch What Happens Live. “When I got lipo, I said I got lipo.”Her message has remained consistent: honesty over image. After revealing her surgeries, Schumer wrote on Instagram, “I wanted to take the opportunity to advocate for self-love and acceptance of the skin you’re in. Like every other woman, some days I feel confident and good as hell, and others I want to put a bag over my head.”
