Another fuel shock? Petrol, diesel and CNG prices climb again

Fuel prices including petrol, diesel and CNG have been increased across major Indian cities in the latest revision, adding to the burden on daily commuters and transport operators. The revision comes amid a broader upward movement in fuel rates, impacting household budgets, logistics costs and overall transport expenses across urban centres in India.

In Delhi, petrol rose by 87 paise to Rs 99.51 per litre, moving close to the Rs 100 mark, while diesel increased by 91 paise to Rs 92.49 per litre from Rs 91.58. CNG prices were also hiked by Rs 1 per kg, further increasing commuting costs for auto-rickshaws, taxis, private vehicles and public transport users in the national capital.

Kolkata recorded one of the steepest hikes among metros, with petrol increasing by 94 paise to Rs 110.64 per litre and diesel rising by 95 paise to Rs 97.02 per litre. The sharp revision highlights continued upward pressure on fuel prices in eastern India, adding to transportation and daily mobility costs for residents in the city.

Mumbai saw petrol rise by 90 paise to Rs 108.49 per litre and diesel increase by 94 paise to Rs 95.02 per litre in the latest revision. The hike adds further pressure on commuters in the financial capital, where high travel demand and dependence on road transport make fuel price changes more impactful on daily expenses.

In Chennai, petrol increased by 82 paise to Rs 105.31 per litre while diesel rose by 87 paise to Rs 96.98 per litre, sources said. The revision reflects a similar upward trend across southern metros, indicating a synchronized increase in fuel prices across major Indian cities, affecting both private and commercial vehicle users.

Bengaluru is also witnessing fuel price changes in line with the metro-wide revision trend, with petrol, diesel and CNG rates moving in sync with other major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. The upward movement in fuel pricing is adding to commuting costs for private vehicle users, cab operators and public transport services in the city.
