Marriage can be stressful and generally, it is very complicated because it shakes many foundations. This begins with the mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, and the son triangle which can either be super toxic or very fluid (rarely). Mothers-in-law rarely tell the fiance of their son about the issues with her son or their relationship. The dark side or the complicated side is generally hidden until she is a new bride, living in the house. Here are 3 things a mother-in-law will never reveal about her son before marriage.
“My son is a messy boy”
No mother will ever tell anyone else, let alone a new bride, the reality of her son’s hygiene. She always knows what her son is like, and what are his cleanliness habits but she would never admit to it because it would indirectly reflect on her, so she will never tell you that. You may have to teach him everything, right from taking baths daily to reminding him that he needs to put his clothes for washing, there may just be an entire list of hygiene issues that need addressing, from you. She will never reveal a thing.
“He is addicted to my food”
No mother will ever reveal to her daughter-in-law in the beginning that she has her son addicted to her food and that it will take him time to open up to your kind of cooking. This can be a very tough task in the initial stages of marriage and women never get this in the initial stages of dating or just before their marriage until they are completely into it.
“I am dependent on my son more than my husband”
In many cases, the mother-in-law may have a husband but in the end, it is her son she can count on. In Indian households, there are several situations where the MIL may have had a bad experience since her MIL would try to hold on to her son for everything and make the wife feel lonely. This is why they get attached to their sons more and they eventually become heavily dependent on them for everything. So, when a new bride comes in, her son’s new wife, the mother feels threatened, and fears losing that one crutch of her life. But, this is something she would never tell you before her son’s marriage.
