India on two wheels: The ultimate biker’s route in 12 days

There’s something magical about exploring India on a bike—the freedom, the open roads, and the ever-changing landscapes. From the Himalayas to the Thar Desert and the salt flats of Gujarat to Mumbai’s coastal charm, this 12-day ultimate biker’s route is the adventure of a lifetime. Helmet on, engine revved—let’s ride!

2/8

Day 1-2: Delhi to Manali

Kick off your journey from Delhi, where you hit the highway towards Manali. The ride through Chandigarh, Mandi, and Kullu is packed with winding roads, river views, and mountain air. Once in Old Manali, unwind with some local trout and live music before prepping for the Himalayan leg of your journey.

3/8

Day 3-4: Manali to Leh

A biker's paradise is the fabled Manali-Leh Highway. Your talents are put to the test on Rohtang Pass, Baralacha La, and Tanglang La, and the excitement is increased by Gata Loops. After spending the night in Sarchu, roll into Leh the following day and sip hot butter tea to celebrate your triumph.

4/8

Day 5-6: Leh

Give your bike a breather and explore Leh’s monasteries, Magnetic Hill, and the Shanti Stupa. If you’re up for it, take a quick ride to Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world.

5/8

Day 7-8: Leh to Jaisalmer

Time to swap mountains for deserts! Fly with your bike to Jaipur (yes, you can transport it), then ride west to Jaisalmer through Rajasthan’s golden dunes. The Sam Sand Dunes await, where you can trade your bike for a camel (temporarily) and camp under the starlit sky.

6/8

Day 8: Jaisalmer to Rann of Kutch

A long but scenic ride takes you from Jaisalmer to the Rann of Kutch, where endless white salt flats create an otherworldly biking experience. Sunset rides here are unforgettable—just you, your bike, and miles of emptiness.

7/8

Day 9 to 11: Rann to Ahmedabad

Take a break at Ahmedabad rather than continuing on directly to Mumbai. Before going to bed, take a ride through the villages of Bhuj and Kutch, eat some of the regional Gujarati thalis, and if you want, stop by Sabarmati Ashram.

8/8

Day 11 to 12: Ahmedabad to Mumbai

The final stretch takes you from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, a 500 km ride through Vadodara and Surat. Cross into Maharashtra, and before you know it, you’re cruising along Marine Drive, celebrating the epic ride with a classic cutting chai.
