... DAY 4, SESSION 2 ...

Just as the players walked back to the dressing room, there seemed to be a slight drizzle around the stadium and the ground staff brought the covers on to protect the centre patch. Hopefully, it is a passing shower and we will return post Lunch for the afternoon session. Will Australia continue their good work and inch towards the target? Australia got what they wanted this morning and did not allow the last-wicket stand to frustrate them. Todd Murphy struck in his first over as he trapped the England number eleven in front of the stumps and Australia has close to two days to chase down a mammoth target. The Day 4 pitch at the Kennington Oval has been kind to the batters so far as the Australian openers took a positive approach to this run chase. They did not get bogged down by the English fast bowlers and took the attack to the injured Moeen Ali. The opening stand is currently unbeaten on 75 with David Warner on 30 and Usman Khawaja 11 runs short of his half-century, and both batters will be hoping to continue the good work as they set up a remarkable run chase. 

SESSION SUMMARY - 81 runs and 1 wicket in 25.5 overs. Australia have dominated proceedings this morning and have given themselves a sniff at the target as they go into Lunch with all their wickets intact. The day started in an emotional manner as the Aussies lined up for a Guard of Honour in respect of the retiring Stuart Broad. He smashed one maximum to the delight of the crowd before James Anderson lost his wicket in the second over of the Day. The hosts set a target of 384 and it seemed like an uphill task for the visitors but the lack of help from the surface for the English bowlers has made this game really exciting. Australia still need 309 runs to win while England are still to draw first blood in their quest to bowl their opponents out.
