India vs Australia 1st Test Highlights: Rohit Sharma hits fifty to take India to 77/1 at stumps on Day 1 vs Australia

Captain Rohit Sharma (56 not out) scored an authoritative half-century after Ravindra Jadeja picked up a five-for as India reached 77 for 1 at stumps on day one of the opening Test against Australia on Thursday. Comeback-man Jadeja (5/47), playing his first international match after recovering from a knee injury, grabbed five wickets as India bowled out Australia for 177 in their first innings just after tea.

India started the match with two big wickets inside three overs, removing both openers Usman Khawaja (1) and David Warner (1) cheaply. The pacers Mohammed Siraj (1/13) and Mohammed Shami (1/12) with the wickets for the hosts. But after that it was all Australia in the first session. Marnus Labuschagne (47*) and Steve Smith (19*) scored boundaries at regular intervals and so far added 74 runs for the third wicket to lead the Australia fightback. The visitors are well placed at the lunch break despite early wickets.

Siraj, bowling his first over of the match, bowled an outswinger to Australia opener Usman Khawaja and hit his pad straightaway with his first delivery of the match. A loud lbw appeal followed, but umpire Nitin Menon didn't look convinced. Siraj walked up to Rohit and convinced him to go upstairs.
